Bayern Munich vs Viktoria Plzen

The Czech football club Viktoria traces its history back to 1911. It has its own soccer academy, home stadium, has a numerous generation of trainees and has repeatedly won the Czech championship.

On October 12, 2022 there was a match Bayern Munich vs Viktoria Plzen, where the German club won with a score of 4-2. Although the Czech team was defeated here, they also scored some good goals.

How does it feel to score for Bayern?

Jan Kliment, Viktoria’s attacking player, talked about his impressions. He is happy with the goals he scored and his recovery from injury. The results of the game in the second half were really good, although the fact of the defeat is disappointing. Clement noted the courage received during this match. The striker distinguished with a high technique and excellent agility.

The head coach Michal Bilek says that he made some changes in preparation for the competition. The opponent’s defensive line increased from three to five, which was the main challenge. In the first half, the Czechs were stunned by the onslaught of the attacking Bayern, which skillfully created comfortable conditions for the ensuing game, and within 25 minutes four goals had already been conceded. The two goals in the second half, according to Bilek, were scored with dignity.

Despite the overall victory, Bayern relaxed somewhat, and the Czech team skillfully took advantage of it.

Viktoria’s history

In Czech football, the Viktoria Pilsen club has its place of honour. After 18 years of amateur action, it was not until 1929 that the team achieved official status and qualified for the second division of the Czech Republic. After securing second place in the top flight, the club’s status rose and fell again in alternating years.

In the national championship, the club won 4th place. In the competition for the “Mitropa Cup” it was a meeting with the Italian team Juventus. Victoria’s first meeting with Bayern Munich was in the Cup Winners’ Cup and ended 0-1, 1-6.

In 1955, the home arena in Pilsen was built under the name of Štruncovy Sady. Previously, this was the site of another stadium, which had been destroyed in a fire. The home stadium was renovated in 2003 and 2011, after which it underwent a major redevelopment. The capacity of the pitch was around 12 thousand people. In 2014-15, around 160,000 fans attended the team’s stadium, which was unprecedented for any other club in the Czech Republic.

The Red and Blue’s first major success was the Czech FA Cup in 1971, the first time they had reached the ranks of European Cup winners.

Pavel Vrba took over as head coach in 2008. He was later included in the list of the “50 best coaches in the world”. Participation in the Europa League showed that Viktoria is one of the best professional clubs in Czech football while competing with European teams.

Competition with other clubs

Although the football industry is rife with scandalous feuds between different teams, club Viktorija is actually one of the most loyal. Only the Czech clubs Sparta and Slavia can be singled out. Friendly relations with some other teams are also unnoticeable.

But the reply by goals in the second half against Bayern, one of the strongest football teams in the world, was worthy of resistance. The German players got their planned exit to the 1/8 finals and gained confidence in their next match against Freiburg, but the mistakes against Viktoria give reason to wonder just how sustainable Bayern will be in their victories going forward.
